Facility Management Professional

Who Should Become and FMP?

IFMA’s Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation is a knowledge-based credential that will help to accelerate an FM’s transition into the profession and demonstrate a proven comprehension of the foundations of facility management. It is ideal for:

  • Facility management practitioners looking to increase their depth-of-knowledge in the foundational FM topics deemed critical by employers.
  • Individuals who are transitioning into the FM profession.
  • Related-industry practitioners such as architects, designers and safety engineers.
  • Facility-related product and service providers.
  • Students entering the profession from colleges, universities, certificate or technical programs.
  • LEED professionals seeking continuing education hours.
  • Federal employees and contractors looking to comply with the Federal Buildings Personnel Training Act (FBPTA).
  • Experienced FMs intending to pursue the CFM credential.

I recommend the FMP program to everyone that considers themselves a facility professional. The FMP credential helps professionals better understand and apply the core elements of the various FM disciplines, challenges their decision-making skills and sets the stage for the CFM credential.  I feel stronger in my knowledge base knowing I passed the rigorous FMP online self-study program.” (Brian Hook, FMP)

I think the FMP courses were very educational and challenging to allow me to think in areas that were outside of how I was taught or learned being on the job. Some things in the courses that I had reviewed, that I thought I had a fairly good understanding of, made me realize that there were more ways to consider something that you normally took for granted. I wanted to pursue the FMP for a couple of reasons, one being that I wanted to keep up to date with some additional training and enrich my knowledge base. I liked the study group that we attended and enjoyed listening to others in the group with their own experiences and bounce the subject material around with the team. I think the FMP program is a great “stepping stone” to those wanting to obtain the CFM; as these courses do a deeper dive into the four competencies and help you with your career goals and aspirations to succeed.
